The
day before Christmas the 23’rd of December we cut down a Christmas tree
and put it in our living room.
We decorate it with lights, red balls, tinsel and a star on the top.
We put a lot of presents under the tree.
We lay a table with ham, turkey, sausages, meatballs, pickled herring, Christmas
soda, ale and sandwiches.
And prepare our Christmas candy, most Swedes have toffee and “ice”
chocolate.
Then after eating at 3 o`clock then it`s time for Donald Duck on TV.
When the show is finished, then one of the adults usually says that he will
go out and says that he is going to go buy the newspaper.
All the little children of course believe that, but it`s really the one that
goes to buy the newspaper who`s Santa.
The children await eagerly to open their presents, After a little while there
is a knock on the door and in the hallway there is a voice that asks if there
are any nice children in the house.
Father Christmas comes in and starts handing out the presents.
We usually have a gift for Santa before he leaves, a chocolate box or another
treat.
Later at night it`s time to go to bed for the little children and the adults
drink glogg (Hot sweet red wine) with raisins and almonds in it.
And that`s how we celebrate Christmas Eve in Sweden!
